1. Become a client

Become a new client! Fill out the new client worksheet here. I will verify you are a professional photographer at this step.

I ask for your preferred album binding companies so I know the specs you’ll require and about how many albums you make a year to project my workload. I ask for your address for security reasons and also so you can get my awesome Christmas card every year.

I also ask how you heard about me. Since you also probably have that information on your photography site’s contact form, you’ll know the importance of this. Please don’t say “internet!”

2. Get your FTP account

Due to the number of new clients I receive, once you let me know you’re ready to send in an album I will set up an ftp account and send you an email to notify you of your username and password.

This FTP account is how you send me your images so I can design your albums. After you approve your album design, I’ll also upload your spreads to the same account. If you’re not familiar with FTP you might want to read the FTP wiki. Transmit is a great Mac app and CuteFTP a great PC app, and Firefox has a free extension to use ftp that you can download from their site.

3. Prepare your images

If you’re exporting from a program such as Lightroom, export your jpegs at a quality level of 75-85. If you’re saving them as jpegs in Photoshop, save them at a level 9 or 10 jpeg. PLEASE only send me jpegs and never raw or photoshop files!

To organize your images, please first ensure your images are in a chronological order. I can organize the images by time stamp if they don’t have consistent file names, but they must be in some sort of order. If your files all have different names and are not in chronological order, I could easily miss an image in the design. However, keep the image names that your client sees, or we may have a problem during the revision stage (example: your client wants me to replace a picture with IMG_4682.jpg and you sent me images named file001.jpg, file002.jpg, etc.). In general, it’s a good idea to have a consistent file naming structure regardless.

If you’re sending both “must have” images and “maybe” images, please separate them. The easiest way to do this is to label them different colors in bridge (for example, blue is must have). You can also do this by putting the images into different folders. Please remember, there is a $50 surcharge if you have more than 3 images/page on average.

3. Prepare your images

4. Submit your album

Log in to your ftp and upload your images.

Now’s a great time to review the album design styles: organic, color-blocked, and green label. If you aren’t sure what will work best, you’re welcome to let me choose the design style that fits best with your images.

When your images have FINISHED uploading, go to the new album worksheet here. Fill in your options, and send the form to me. If you send this form before your images have finished uploading and I start downloading them, I will not receive all the images. This means your design might end in the middle of the ceremony!

When I receive the new album worksheet and your payment, I will add your album design into the queue.

4. Submit your album

5. Review your album

Within 7 business days, I will send you an email with your instructions on how to view your album design. There are very important instructions on how to make and request revisions, and any requests that don’t comply with those instructions may not be changed. These instructions are to ensure the speedy delivery of your revised album design.

5. Review your album

6. Submit your revision requests (if any)

You may send this information to your client and have them request changes themselves, or you may request changes on your own. Either way, I will receive an email letting me know you’re ready for me to revise. If you don’t have any changes, skip ahead to the approval step.

6. Submit your revision requests (if any)

7. Approve your album design

After you request revisions, I’ll make the changes and send you the new proof within 7 business days. If you’re using the one included round of revisions, now is the time to verify I correctly made your revision requests. If you purchased additional rounds of revisions, you can repeat these steps as necessary. When the album design is ready and to your liking, you’ll hit the green “approve” button.

If you chose the InDesign option, I’ll upload your ID document and a PDF of your album design to your ftp account. If you chose the Photoshop option, I’ll upload your layered PSD documents to your ftp account. For more information on these options, please view the pricing page.

If you prefer a disc sent to you with the final files rather than downloading them, you must make a special request. There is no charge. I mail discs out once a week, on Friday.

7. Approve your album design
